Daylily Plants
Daylily plants will add a beautiful splash of color to nearly any garden. The individual blooms of daylily plants will only last for one day each, but several blooms appear on each stem. This allows for the blooming period of day lily plants to be a few weeks long. Planting several daylily plants with different bloom times into a clump will lengthen this blooming period even more.

There are four distinct parts to each daylily plant, including the roots, crown, leaves and scape. The roots of daylily plants are long and slender, and absorb water and minerals from the soil. The crown of the daylily plant is the stem, and produces the leaves, scapes and roots of the plant. The leaves of day lily plants are long and grass-like, with a notable vein down the center. The scape of the daylily plant is a leafless stalk that produces the flowers.

The flowers of daylily plants come in several different colors and varieties. The possible colors are almost endless, and range from yellow to red to purple and everything in between. The throat, or center area of the flower, is often a different color than the rest of the bloom, usually green or yellow-gold. The stamen may also be a different color, usually light yellow to greenish.

Daylily plants prefer full to partial sun, and can grow in a variety of different soil types. Daylily plants will even grow in sandy or clay soil. They usually require little care, as long as the soil is kept moist and well drained. Growing day lily plants is an easy and fun task for any garden.
